How We Raise Confident, Happy, Lovable Puppies at Sappy Paws
There’s something really special about the first few weeks of a puppy’s life.
It’s a time full of tiny milestones -- first wobbly steps, first playful barks, first snuggles.. but it’s also when the foundation for their entire life begins to take shape.
At Sappy Paws, raising puppies isn’t just about getting them ready to go home. It’s about helping them become confident, happy, well-adjusted companions for the families who will love them for years to come.
From the very beginning, our puppies are raised right inside our homes here in Lebanon, Oregon. They grow up surrounded by everyday life, the sounds of a busy household and the rhythm of family routines, and lots of time playing with all the grandkids!
This early exposure matters more than people often realize.
How We Raise Confident, Happy, Lovable Puppies at Sappy Paws: We intentionally work with our puppies daily, introducing them to touch, sound, and new experiences in a way that builds confidence instead of fear. We incorporate early enrichment and Puppy Culture-style practices to help them develop strong, steady temperaments.
As they grow, they begin exploring new environments - from snuggling on the living room couches - to our outdoor play areas where they can safely run, play, and interact with their littermates. These moments teach them how to be curious, social, and adaptable.
Sleep and routine are just as important as play. After full days of activity, our puppies are gently introduced to kennel bedtime routines. By the time they are ready for their forever homes, most are already sleeping through the night -- a small detail that makes a big difference for new families.
We also begin the early stages of potty training, helping puppies learn where and when to go, so that transition into their new homes feels smoother and less overwhelming.
We carefully select our parent dogs for their health, temperament, and family-friendly nature. Each pairing is chosen with the goal of welcoming puppies that are not only adorable, but emotionally balanced and easy to integrate into a loving home.
At the end of the day, our goal is simple:
