Splish Splash! Fun Ways to Keep Your Pup Cool This Summer Summer is here, and while we all love soaking up the sunshine, our furry friends can feel the heat a bit more than we do! Whether you’re planning outdoor adventures or just hanging out in the backyard, it’s important to help your pup stay cool, comfortable, and safe during those warm summer days.

At Sappy Paws, our pups LOVE to play, and we’ve learned a few fun tricks to beat the heat! Here are our favorite ways to keep your dog cool, hydrated, and tail-wagging happy all summer long:
🐶 1. Pup Pools & Splash Pads
Nothing says summer like a little water play! Set up a small kiddie pool or splash pad in your yard and let your pup paddle, stomp, and splash to their heart’s content. Bonus points for floating toys and frozen treats bobbing around for extra fun!
🍦 2. Make Pup-sicles
Cool down snack time with homemade dog-friendly popsicles! Try blending plain Greek yogurt, peanut butter (xylitol-free!), mashed banana, or blueberries, then freezing the mixture in silicone molds or ice cube trays. Your dog will love the refreshing treat—and you’ll love knowing exactly what’s in it.
🌳 3. Create a Shady Oasis
If your pup loves lounging outdoors, be sure they have access to plenty of shade. You can string up a canopy, set up a portable shade tent, or park a cozy bed under a tree. A cooling mat or damp towel also makes a comfy chill-out spot.

💧 4. Hydration Station
Keep fresh, cool water available at all times—indoors and out. Consider adding a splash of low-sodium bone broth to their water bowl to encourage extra sips during hot afternoons. If you're on the go, bring a collapsible water bowl or a doggy water bottle to keep your pup refreshed. (Please remember to never leave your pup in the car for any amount of time in the hot summer months!)
🎾 5. Play When It’s Cool
Save fetch, walks, and other high-energy activities for the cooler parts of the day—early morning or after dinner. Hot pavement can burn sensitive paw pads, so try the “barefoot test”: if you can’t walk on it barefoot, your dog shouldn’t either.
At Sappy Paws, we believe in making every season special for our pups—and summer is the perfect time to create fun memories with your four-legged family member.💦
Stay cool out there, and give your pup an extra belly rub from us!
